Potty training

A month ago, I met a mom at a park whose 27 month old son was potty trained. In fact, she had him potty trained at 20 months right around the time her daughter was born. After I picked myself off the rubbery park ground, I asked her how she did it. I mean, my doctor told me that boys get trained closer to 3 years old and as far as I knew, most of my friends potty trained their boys right before they started preschool. Her method was an ebook called "oh crap, potty training" and I figured it was worth the investment -- diapering 2 kids is a lot of work, Wesley fights me for every change, and ... Matt and I had said we thought he was ready despite the 3 year old lingo. He was interested when we went and he had begun to hide when pooping.

The biggest factor has been 1) finding time to read the book, and 2) finding the week window she wants us to clear our calendar of. We lead busy lives, not to mention this is the holiday season. But this week was the best; no yoga, no preschool, Matt can work from home, and he's off Thursday & Friday for thanksgiving ...

So where are we now? We just finished up Day 2 where Wesley was pant-less & diaper-less all weekend. He even took a nap with no diaper today and tonight is our first diaper less night (yes, we're plunging into night training all at once). He was gung-ho saturday morning. At breakfast he started to go and told us so matt swooped him to the potty! We were ecstatic. We had a few accidents after that but we prompted him enough times too so that he went in the potty. It was a great first day. Today ... he had all accidents. We tried prompting him and he refused (or would sit for 2 seconds and get up). Right before bed in fact, he went behind a chair to pee and his first poop was in the bathroom between his toilet and the big one ... We had resistance today too. The "no pee in the potty, I want my diaper" drama.

Hoping tomorrow is better and that I can catch him in the act even with Claire in my arms.

By Thanksgiving (at my aunts no less) he'll be 6 days into potty training and we hope that by then we have a good handle on when he needs to go (and that he won't be hiding behind her couch). And we'll bring plenty of pants.

Photo gallery project: finished, well almost

My photo gallery is just about finished! I am so happy with the way it turned out. All I need now is to find a small frame for a piece of art, an F to hang, and fill in some of these with family photos.

Nursery/Office (3rd bedroom) Before & After

This room has taken many life forms over the last 7 years ... mainly as an office, a catch-all room, and occasionally a spare bedroom.  Now we can safely call it the nursery with the office in the closet. It's amazing what new paint and hardwood floors can accomplish!

Halloween Season

Wait ... was that October that just flew past us? Halloween has come and gone and all we have left is a crumpled dragon outfit, lots of leftover candy, and memories. (click on pictures to enlarge)
